Investigating the Translation Strategies Used in Rendering Cultural Bound Expressions in Barghouthy’s Memoire I Was Born There, I Was Born Her

This study investigates the translation strategies used in translating 25 cultural references and expressions Mourid Barghouty’s autobiography ‘I Was Born There, I Here’ (2009) from Arabic into English. The results of this research may assist trainee translators to improve their understanding effect culture on quality translation. researchers adopt two theoretical models: Venuti’s domestication foreignization (1998) Ivir’s (1987) procedures for references. tries find out what extent has accounted render original bound maintaining meaning target language. a qualitative since data analysis is based analytical descriptive approaches. After analyzing selected data, that strategy been most frequently-used at (52%), comes second (48%). procedure substitution (seven times), followed by literal borrowing with same number times (six then defining elements (four omission (twice). Lexical creation addition have not all. findings also show translator managed capture intended sought author extracts. recommend culture-bound should be aware involved cultures. helps them determine context which text takes place, so they can achieve closest equivalents text.
